A New eBay & E-Commerce Changes

This has been a busy week for us here at InternetAuctionNewsRadio. Sparky and I took a road trip to ChannelAdvisor's Catalyst 2008 conference at Pinehurst NC this week. This event is certainly a must attend for serious online multi-channel marketers. Scot Wingo CEO of ChannelAdvisor and his employees are to be commended for the wealth and depth of information presented, along with great networking opportunities.

Many blogs, including those of our colleagues Scott Pooler of AllBusinessAuctions.com and TradingAssistantJournal.com, and Chris Dawson of Tamebay.com have covered the ChannelAdvisor Catalyst Conference in great detail. Please check out their insights.

I was concerned and at the same time intrigued by the presentation that Stephanie Tilenius GM of eBay North America gave at the Scot Wingo keynote address. Stephanie made it clear that the concept of an annual price change no longer existed at eBay and that further pricing adjustments could come at any time. Stephanie also stated that we have yet to see the end of drastic changes at eBay and said, “by this time next year we will not recognize eBay.com compared with how it looks today.” Several attendees, myself included are left wondering where those that like the "old" eBay will go to when this all happens.

In other eBay news, the new eBay blog eBay Ink made it's debut this week. Written by Richard Brewer-Hay, the blog is being promoted as an uncensored venue. I wish Richard all the luck in the world, and hope he is able to come up to speed on the passion and drive that eBay users have. As Richard has very little experience selling or buying on the site, this will be a huge task. Couple this with the significant number of personnel changes at eBay including the hiring of the new head of corporate communications (Richard's new boss), this will certainly be an interesting time for the new blog.
