ebay & Beyond: It's Time To Get Focused on YOUR Business Again
has made the changes that it feels are needed to continue it's business growth. After all, eBay is in business to make money. The decisions made by management will be judged by many, and modified as necessary to meet goals and objectives set by the board of directors and stockholders. That's it! Businesses across the globe make strategic decsions everyday, and if you are building or running an online business you should be doing the SAME EXACT THING!
Economic strategies change on a daily basis as does the economic climate. Not so long ago (less than 1 month) oil prices were going down. Now they are skyrocketing! Airlines and companies like UPS and tens of thousands of others that use huge quantities of petroleum products must constantly revise their business plans to meet the demands of their customers. We as internet marketers must do the very same thing.
Whether you are selling on eBay alone (and you shouldn't be) or using multiple channels to market your product or service you must constantly be looking at your business model to ensure your business can meet demand and remain profitable. It is time for you as an internet marketer to re-focus your energies on YOUR BUSINESS.
Entrepenuers have one thing in common. They constantly focus on the things that they can do to grow their business. They realize that there are things that they simply have no control over. Certainly they can attempt to negotiate some portions of their business that they outsource. Yes if you use eBay or any other commercial venue, it is outsourcing! So, if you as a business person are unable to negotiate pricing, rules, requirements or other things that effect your business, you find other partners. Plain and simple.
If the changes on eBay make you as a business person uncomfortable, your business MUST change strategies. Find other venues, other channels to promote your business. For some, that will mean restructuring. For some that will mean driving your customers to other venues such as other marketing sites or your own website.
If you participated in the eBay boycott, you obviously lost some sales. Some businesses can absorb that, some could not. It really doesn't make sense to shut down your business completely because you are angry. Truly, that is an emotional response, and as the saying goes "It's not personal, it's business".
Re-focus your energies on the things you can control. It's your business, but that's my focus!
